Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic in addition to a public speaking Canadian. She founded Feminist Frequency an online platform that includes videos and commentary on portrayals of women in popular cultural. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American media critic and blog writer who has been awarded awards for her work, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency is an educational and non-profit site that investigates representations of women in popular culture narratives. Determined to challenge the assumptions associated with women in pop culture she also works on issues related specifically to the harassment of women, as well as the marginalized groups of people in the online area. With a master's in the field of political and social thinking at York University Sarkeesian is also an extremely sought-after public speaker and she has delivered speech at TEDxWomen's XOXO Festival and also the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Attracted to issues related to gender and feminism since the age of 7, she started her own website Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was being a student at the University. The determined lady had planned to create a web series examining gender representation in video games. However, she found herself in the middle for an online harassment campaign. However, this did not deter her. She was only able to strengthen her position journalistic skills as a feminist. To honor the numerous achievements she's made for feministism, she's the recipient of numerous awards.
