JoyceDeWitt started her stage career at the age of 13. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree at Ball State University. During her summer stock performance she was enticed by the director to enroll at UCLA's Department of Theater MFA Program. She was granted the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship and the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt stated that she had never had a conversation with Abe Vigoda during her time at UCLA. DeWitt is best known for her part in Three's company's run from 1977 until 1984 as Janet Wood. This was a job that she got when she was cast in the pilot episode that followed. Janet was also featured in the episode of The Ropers in 1979. DeWitt began her acting career in the episode 1984 on Three's Company. The actress returned to acting in a part in an episode of Noises Off at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse in June 1991. Also, she performed in Spring Flan, the 1995 TV comedy. A character who was based on her, voiced by an actress, was in the 1997 episode of Pinky and the Brain. The actress was in the episode Cybill and also made an appearance on Living Single's last episode. She's been in TV shows like Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special, and Call of the Wild in 2000.
